It all started innocently enough...
|

| |
Spider-Man's
costume was in tatters after an encounter during The Secret Wars, and
went looking for a machine which would make any costume he wanted (which
two other neighbourhood heroes had told him about). He thought he had
found it, but instead found a machine which looked "like it wants
to make a costume." In fact, it produced a small black blob, setting
off Spider-Man's spidey sense when he touched it. The blob then smothered
Spider-Man and became the black costume he wore for a while, which as
well as enhancing his strength, produced it's own webbing and could change
to mimic civilian clothes.

However, he soon found that
this new suit was actually an alien symbiote, which was trying to permanently
bond to him, feeding off his adrenaline. With the aid of Mr Fantastic
and his sonic blaster weapon, Spider-Man detached himself from the symbiote.
The costume then escaped Mr Fantastic's lab, where it rebonded to Spider-Man,
who then freed himself again by using a church bell. The symbiote then
lay in hiding within the church, waiting... |

Elsewhere,
an investigative reporter for the Daily Globe named Eddie Brock was working
on what would have been the story of his life, the confession of the wanted
Sin-Eater. However, whilst going to press, Spider-Man unmasked the Sin-Eater,
proving Brock's source to be a fake. This lost Brock his job, his wife
and his respect, and he blamed the Web Slinger for everything. Then, at
church saying a final prayer before commiting suicide, the symbiote locked
on to Brock's loathing of Spider-Man, and bonded with him. Tus, Venom
was born! |

Venom sees himself as a hero,
protecting innocents from the "evil" Spider-Man, and has actually
acted as a hero on occasions, but ultimately thinks those he sees as evil
don't deserve to live, striking similarities with the Punisher. One of
Venom's most noteable good deeds was protecting a homeless community nicknamed
the "under people" in San Fransisco. This, however, does not
mask that Venom was clearly unhinged, and still blamed everything on Spider-Man.
Venom then became a threat to innocent people, and got amnesia, so forgetting
that Peter Parker and Spider-Man were one and the same. He briefly joined
the Sinister Six, but then left and plotted to kill his former comrades
(and nearly did kill Sandman and Electro). |

|
Finally, Venom revealed that
Eddie Brock inside the suit had cancer, and needed to permanently merge
with the symbiot to survive. This happened, but the Brock found God and
sold the symbiote suit to try and gain redemption. Last seen in an alley
after slitting his wrists, Brock is surely dead, and the symbiote runs
wild looking for a new host to share in its hatred of Spider-Man... |

POWERS/ABILITIES
The symbiote can transform into any item of clothing
at all, and even blend into it's surroundings, effectively making venom
invisible. Brock also now has super human strength, and the suit can
stick to any surface, allowing him to wall climb, and the suit also
has the ability to shoot web from its hands. Plus, as it was previously
joined to Spider-Man, Venom has the capability to avoid his spider sense,
making him a deadly foe. Venom's only main weaknesses are sonic and
thermal attacks/
